For the third year in a row, Miu Miu will be the Art Basel Paris' Public Program Official Partner.
Miu Miu is back again as the Public Program Official Partner for Art Basel Paris. The pairs relationship have been growing stronger and stronger over the past two years through Miu Miu’s commitment to bringing art and contemporary movements together, but it’s not the only relationship the Maison is pushing forward. This years project, Geste de Consolation (Gesture of Consolation), calls French filmmaker Alice Diop to curate Miu Miu’s most major showing yet, exploring the unfolding representation of Black women in past and contemporary spaces.

It started at Art Basel 2024 with Miu Miu’s inaugural iteration titled Tales & Tellers which studied the ever-evolving notions of femininity, brought to life by interdisciplinary artist Goshka Macuga. In the partnerships sophomore year, they presented 30 Blizzards (2025) by artist Helen Marten, following new performance work combining sculpture, video, libretto, music, and choreography in collaboration with opera director Fabio Chertich and composer Beatrice Dillon.
This year, Alice Diop reinforces Miu Miu’s commitment to spotlighting the arts and artists, having worked with Alice previously when she directed the Miu Miu Women’s Tales #30 short film, Fragments For Venus (2025). The filmmaker continues the dialogue in politically engaged French cinema, addressing topics of identity, migration, and colonialism through unique life stories from marginalized voices at Art Basel 2026.

“I want my curation to center on acts of consolation conceived by Black women artists, each active in their own discipline, to repair the fetishizing gaze to which centuries of art history have confined us,” Alice says.
Geste de Consolation is due to be held as part of Art Basel Paris’ Public Program at the Palais d’Iéna, where a chorus of Black women artists from film, photography, sculpture, poetry, dance, music, and performance will be brought together. Visitors can expect to interact with all of these artists and art forms in different capacities throughout the space, beginning with Alice Diop’s two-screen video installation featuring a montage of archival images and film excerpts that have impacted her filmmaking both negatively and positively.

A performance arena will see live readings from performers Penda Diouf, Alice De Luz Gomes, Latifa Laabissi, Séphora Pondi, Davide-Christelle Sanvee, and Betty Tchomanga. Alongside it, music from Angel Bat Dawid and Sistazz of the Nitty-Gritty, and an adaptation of Nadia Beugré’s Prophétique contemporary dance choreography. The exhibition also features a library space filled with books that create portraits of Black women thinking in the 21st Century and have shaped Alice’s knowledge. Culminating the project is Simone Leigh’s 5-meter bronze sculpture Sentinel (Mami Wata) of a powerful West African water spirit.
Open to public at the Palais d’Iéna, Paris from October 21 – October 25 as part of Art Basel Paris’s Public Program. Preview on Oct 20.
