MCLAREN TO DEBUT RESTORED M6GT TRIBUTE AT GOODWOOD 2026

McLaren Special Operations breathes new life into Bruce McLaren’s foundational road car vision, bridging six decades of racing soul and modern hypercar engineering.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed serves as a theater for automotive history, but McLaren is turning this year’s event into a deeply personal homecoming. Leading the charge at McLaren House is the public debut of the M6GT: Restored by MSO. This one-off masterwork revives the genesis of the brand’s road car legacy. Originally conceived by Bruce McLaren as a civilized translation of his dominant M6A Can-Am racer, the project tragically stalled after his passing. For over half a century, it remained a mythical what-if, until now.

MSO treated the build as a strict act of historical custodianship. The car utilizes a verified, period-correct M6A racing chassis and original body moulds unearthed in the UK. Every detail demanded technical virtuosity, from hand-fabricated hidden structures to tracking down obsolete imperial-era bearings for the original suspension. Inside, a hand-turned solid walnut gear knob sits alongside green vinyl seats. This green interior contrasts beautifully with the Colnbrook White exterior, a bespoke cream shade honoring the factory where Bruce developed his designs and matching his first 1966 Formula 1 car.

The M6GT serves as the structural anchor for a spectacular timeline of McLaren icons. Restored legends like the thundering 1968 M8A Can-Am car and the pioneering Austin 7 Ulster sit next to modern benchmarks like the W1 hypercar and a special Artura finished in matching Colnbrook white. Looking straight into the next chapter, McLaren is also providing a first public look at the MCL-HY, its 2027 Le Mans challenger, alongside its track-only sibling, the MCL-HY GTR. It is a breathtaking showcase that beautifully demonstrates how the maverick spirit of Bruce McLaren continues to dictate the brand’s future.
