Letting three centuries of scholarship set the tone for its newest collection, Loro Piana merges knowledge and craftsmanship under the watchful gaze of Empress Maria Theresa of Habsburg in Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense.

While other Maisons were busy building bespoke sets, Loro Piana borrowed one that’s been knocking about Milan since 1770. For Spring/Summer 2027, the Maison staged its Solutions For collections inside Palazzo di Brera’s library – Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense. It’s Italy’s third national library and a working institution that still welcomes 125,000 readers a year, the space now doubled briefly as a show space drawing parallels between knowledge and craftsmanship.
The choice came from Loro Piana’s long standing founding instinct to identify a need then answer it precisely through material, construction, and function, which we also get from the collections title and garments themselves. A library – built around the idea of finding a considered answer to a specific question – makes a perfect metaphor for Loro Piana which the Maison leans fully into. Afterall, a place where people find the meaning in even the most menial notions, the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense would never have only served as a backdrop for the occasion.

Solutions For unfolded across two of the library’s most storied rooms with both men’s and womenswear. In the Maria Teresa room, a portrait of the founding Empress Maria Theresa of Habsburg herself presided over the space, tall canvas panels bordered in Loro Piana’s signature Kummel hue rising between windows, hung with original sketches of the House’s archetypes. Wooden library ladders were repurposed as display structures to hold the new season’s bags and soft accessories like the supple Bale Softy, Extra Softy and Pioneer backpacks, and oversized Heddle tote aloft. Elsewhere, walnut cases arranged across the floor let signature and iconic garments lie flat alongside their original sketches of precious objects. The Grande Unita scarves, the Maison’s very first Icon, sat inside their own cases, each accompanied by a poem telling its story.

Trans-seasonal summer peacoats and braided raffia lace-ups, Bermudas and Sahariennes and Guayabera jackets, covered the mannequins dotted around the space. Academic charm boasted on tweed jackets, and adventure brought on in Loro Piana’s hunting jackets. Bombers and chambray shirts followed summer on by shortened sleeves and open layers. With problem solving abilities to be praised, the Maison presented the ultimate emergency collection with every which shirt, jacket, and trouser to kit the season from cold to hot, and breezy to a light drizzle.

Beyond that room, guests moved into the reading room turned living lounge, Sala Lettura, where the collection’s silhouettes stood among four hands-on stations showing off the Maison’s savoir faire. There was a fabric book charting the season’s cloth, a tailoring table exposing construction and finish, a sunglasses display highlighting technical detail, and a one station devoted to the art of screen printing behind the collection’s signature motifs. Influenced by the setting, Loro Piana really encouraged visitors to read deeper into the clothes and craftsmanship.
