FROM MARRAKECH, WITH LOVE: SAINT LAURENT RETURNS TO THE RED CITY FOR WINTER 25

Where Yves found color, Vaccarello finds fire.

As a Moroccan myself, it is undeniable that Marrakech is the city of dreams – a place that radiates the warmest energy, whether it’s in the people, the golden sun, or the finger-licking tanjia. And if there is one man who saw and felt Marrakech with the same passion, perhaps even more intensely, it was Yves Saint Laurent. His devotion to the city wasn’t fleeting; it was a love affair that became part of his history, his identity, and ultimately, his legacy.

That bond is etched into Marrakech itself. The Yves Saint Laurent Museum now stands as a monument to his artistry, right beside Villa Oasis, the villa he once called home. In the Jardin Majorelle – his sanctuary of cobalt blues, exotic flora (lots and lots of cacti), and serene pathways – his ashes were scattered, fusing his spirit forever with the colors that defined him. Marrakech was not just where Yves Saint Laurent lived; it is where he remains.

For Winter 25, Anthony Vaccarello brings the maison back to Villa Oasis, marking the first campaign there since Yves’s passing. But rather than resting on nostalgia, Vaccarello injects raw voltage. Photographer Drew Vickers frames silhouettes as sharp as obsidian against Marrakech’s saturated light, while Arnaud Michaux’s collages slice and layer hues into an almost feverish intensity; ochre, Majorelle blue, fuchsia shadow.

The campaign feels less like a tribute and more like a reawakening. Marrakech, once Yves’s muse, now becomes Vaccarello’s stage for amplifying contrast and electricity. Every frame radiates with the same spirit of Yves Saint Laurent’s creativity: bold, sensual, unapologetic. What Yves began, Vaccarello pushes forward – a love story not preserved in memory, but revived in energy and fire. Marrakech is alive, pulsing at the very heart of Saint Laurent once again.
