BOOKED AND BUSY: THE MARRIOTT BONVOY TAKES VIETNAM
Written By: Marciarn Vardakas
Marriott Bonvoy takes us on a journey through Hoi An and Da Nang, moving comfortably between coastal calm and urban momentum
Vietnam isn’t a place you ease into; it meets you at full volume from day one, rearranging your expectations without announcement. One moment you’re immersed in everyday life, the next you’re confronted by a skyline that feels like a tech vision board brought to life. These extremes don’t compete – they sit side by side, unbothered. Between Hoi An and Da Nang, the country reveals a confidence in its contradictions, where quiet moments and relentless momentum exist in parallel and feel equally honest. The clarity does not come from explanation, but from watching those moments coexist.

HOI AN
The Renaissance Danang Hoi An Resort & Spa, set along the quiet sweep of Cua Dai Beach, makes its intentions clear early on. This is a place designed for decompression. Ocean-facing and surrounded by greenery, it feels removed in the best possible way – close enough to the old town to explore freely, far enough to make returning feel like a reward rather than a retreat. Breakfast at Food Studio unfolds with no rush, live cooking stations humming quietly while the infinity pool stretches toward the sea, daring you to take a break.
Hoi An itself doesn’t rush to impress. The town wears its history comfortably, letting color and texture do the talking. Yellows soften under the sun, lantern reds glow a little brighter after dark, and the river moves at its own unbothered pace. It’s a place that assumes you’ll catch up eventually.
Back at the Renaissance, that sense of ease becomes the defining experience. The resort is expansive but carefully softened by landscaped gardens and open space, creating a feeling of privacy that feels intentional rather than engineered. Afternoons slip easily between the pool and the beach, where time stretches and the outside world recedes without much resistance.

The accommodation understands the emotional brief. Rooms are generous, filled with natural light, and arranged with an intuitive logic that makes settling in feel almost immediate. Every room opens onto a pool, ocean or beach view, while the beachfront villas – available in three-, four- or five-bedroom layouts – offer private plunge pools and outdoor gardens designed for long lunches, quiet evenings and the rare luxury of unplanned time. It feels less like staying somewhere new and more like arriving somewhere that already knows you.
The spa reinforces that mood rather than interrupting it. Eight treatment rooms, organic products and a focused menu of Ayurvedic therapies, massages and facials encourage lingering rather than ticking boxes. A 24-hour gym, tennis courts, kids’ club and beach lawn activities sit quietly in the background, available without demanding attention.
By the time you leave, the days have softened around the edges. Mornings arrive without urgency, afternoons stretch longer than expected, and the boundary between resort and coastline begins to blur. The Renaissance reveals its impact gradually, through small shifts in pace and attention, and in the way time starts behaving differently when nothing is asking for it. You leave feeling recalibrated, carrying a quiet reluctance to return to a faster version of yourself.

DA NANG
Da Nang announces itself immediately. This is a city built on momentum – glass, steel and forward intent – where the skyline climbs quickly and the river slices through it confidently. There’s little nostalgia here, and no interest in slowing down. The energy is modern, deliberate, and ambitious.
At the center of it, along the Han River, Courtyard by Marriott Danang Han River places you directly inside that rhythm. As the first Courtyard by Marriott in Vietnam, the hotel feels purposeful rather than ornamental – an iconic tower marked by three LED façades that shift with the city’s pace and light up as night falls.

Inside, the atmosphere is calm but focused. The 300 rooms and suites are designed with clarity, favoring natural light and muted tones that allow the views to take precedence. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame river movement, bridges, and city grids, while interiors deliver what matters after a long day: comfortable beds, well-planned workspaces, and bathrooms that balance simplicity with refinement.
The hotel’s public spaces follow the same logic. The Chill Bean handles mornings efficiently, offering strong coffee and fresh pastries before the city fully asserts itself. The Landmark, the all-day dining restaurant, provides a steady anchor throughout the day, pairing Vietnamese favorites with familiar international dishes in a setting that feels composed rather than showy.

The city comes into focus after dark. M45 Rooftop Bar & Omakase, 45 floors above the river and the highest rooftop in Da Nang, offers a clear vantage point over the movement below. Bridges glow, traffic traces patterns across the water, and the city’s scale becomes legible.
The rooftop pool reflects the evening light, Japanese-inspired cocktails arrive with confidence, and curated omakase dining adds structure without ceremony. Live entertainment and guest bartender events give the space energy without excess.
Facilities are layered vertically through the building – a fitness studio and indoor pool on the 29th floor, rooftop pools above, and a comprehensive suite of meeting and event spaces, including a grand ballroom with the highest ceiling in the city center.
It’s a hotel designed for overlap: business and leisure, work and pause, all operating in parallel.
