Zenith strips the chronograph away and lets El Primero’s high-frequency heartbeat speak for itself.

Since 1969, El Primero has been renowned for one very specific sensation: the smooth, high-frequency sweep of a movement running faster than the human eye can quite keep up with. It’s the caliber that made Zenith’s name, ticking along at 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour) while most of the industry provided the 2.5 to 3 Hz status quo. For the CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport, the Maison does something it’s never done before within this particular collection, which is stripping out the chronograph entirely, letting El Primero’s rhythm stand on its own.
The 40mm steel case keeps things compact, wrapped in a ceramic unidirectional bezel and rated to 200 meters of depth, screw-down crown and dynamic crown protectors adding that extra layer of protection. Underneath sits the El Primero 3620 derived from the 3600 chronograph caliber, still spinning at its signature 5 Hz and equipped with a silicon escapement, a stop-second mechanism, and a bi-directional winding system, all while continuing to deliver a healthy 60 hours of power reserve off a Zenith star-shaped rotor.

The dial takes the conceptual cake with the exclusive repeating Z motif engraved directly into ceramic, translating that high-frequency cadence into a physical manifestation rather than just feel through the sweep of the seconds hand. A ‘shark-tooth’ minute track pulls from Zenith’s own archives, while a three-link bracelet and the brand’s new ZENCLASPTM, with a tool-free micro-adjustment built int, round out the watch’s everyday wearability.
Three ceramic dials and bezels lead the range in black, white, and brown with a streamlined no-date black version. All in all, Zenith’s CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport makes its case through subtraction – take away the chronograph and what’s left is the thing that made El Primero legendary in the first place. This three-hand watch comes with a 56-year-old pedigree that handles the main pitch. Plus, it gave us Zenith’s new angled motif.
