Marie Grazia Chiuri, creative director at Dior, looked to different forms of modern dance to inspired her SS19 collection. For her show in Paris, her collection was staged around a conceptual dance magnetic dancers from her company. ““I wanted to speak about dance with a different point of view,” said Chiuri backstage. “I think that dance and fashion are very close, for they both speak about the body. Modern choreographers speak about freedom,” she added. Freedom for the creative director this season meant a new approach to silhouettes and replacing Dior’s structured corsets and rigid shapes with fluid jersey fabrics that draped, pleated and swung freely. So, where else to dance as if no one’s watching than the wilderness of the British countryside? Ethereal textures, earthy, whimsical tones and feminine silhouettes all tell a story that marries Mother Nature with modern life.
