There was something poignant about Karl Lagerfeld’s final collection for Chanel being inspired by the ancient city of Egypt. His Métiers d’Art 2019 show, which was brought to life in New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art as the model’s wound around the Temple of Dendue, an Ancient Egyptian temple dating from around 15 BC. Models carried miniature pyramid bags, were adorned in scarab-beetle shaped accessories and marched in opulent gold boots (embossed leather mimicking exotic skin), as the collection told a story of a civilization that will never be forgotten, much like Kaiser Karl himself.
