THE JOURNEY OF A BESPOKE SNEAKER

Louis Vuitton’s new Now Yours Run Way project lets you design your very own bespoke sneakers. Sound like heard work? Don’t worry, it’s pretty simple – the French Maison’s Italian atelier does the hard work for you.

Fancy yourself as the next Virgil Abloh? It takes an army of expertise craftsman a full day to create a pair of one-off, bespoke pair of Louis Vuitton trainers, but just 15 minutes for you to design them. That’s the ease of the new luxury service the French Maison launch this month. Log online, or go to one of select boutiques worldwide including The Dubai Mall store, and start the creative process by customizing each of the 13 different zones on the sneaker your own way. Choose from nine color ways, canvas options (you can choose between full calf leather, full alligator or a mix between the two but with Sorbet being an exotic-skin-free zone we stayed clear of the croc), before also customizing the color of your sole, heel, tongue and even laces. Louis Vuitton’s iconic two stripes can also be personalized, by choosing the color strips along the side of your new shoe. Last but not least, if your own unique treads aren’t personal enough, finish off hot stamping up to three initials on the heel or side of your new sneaker.

It took just fewer than 15 minutes to complete the process online, but we thought it would be rude not to stop there, as we took a trip to Louis Vuitton’s Fiesso d’Artico shoe plant, a 90-minute drive outside of Venice, where our design was to be brought to life. Art and design dominates the sleek modern building designed by architect Jean-Marc Sandrolini. Inside, you’ll find second-generation craftsman passionately putting your design together, surrounded by site-specific art installations and original drawings by Andy Warhol. Your shoe will pass through the hands of several expert ateliers, from hand-cutting each leather piece, hand-stitching leather uppers into place and manually gluing soles onto place; each making sure each part of the process is executed to perfection – even the boxing process is a master class in perfect packaging, until seven weeks later and your new sneakers are in your hands, or on your feet.
