THE BOYS ARE BACK
Hedi Slimane, Celine’s artistic, creative, and image director, is not one to play by anyone else’s rules. When the French-born, London-based designer unveiled Celine’s debut menswear collection last January, a first for the French house, he stayed fiercely true to his cult aesthetic – skinny, sharp tailoring all with a rebelliously nostalgic rock’n’roll feel. Mystery favors the designer that cultivates silence as the only show notes were via a series of Polaroids titled “Polaroid’s of the British Youth”, photographed by Slimane himself, and posted on the brand’s personal Instagram minutes before the show. Celebrating youth subcultures of the 1960s, the designer explained that; “Traditional tailoring is at the heart of the collection, pushing further the new rectangular volume that I began last season for Céline.”
The result? Slimane’s Celine man is a rock-star-in-waiting thanks to his signature bowl-cut hairstyle, black Wayfarer, skinny tie and tons of cool attitude.
