Miuccia Prada checked her guests into Paris’s legendary Hotel Regina for a night of unapologetic freedom that set the tone for her Miu Miu Resort 2019 collection.
Miuccia Prada presented a collection that was fitting for day, night and all the hours in-between. For the woman that’s coming, going, or on the threshold of something else altogether, Miu Miu’s Resort 2019 collection was about transition. So, where better to check into than one of Paris’s oldest, most iconic hotels?
Hotel Regina, a stalwart of the traveling fashion crowd, was the setting for Miu Miu’s A-list-studded Resort 2019 show. “A hotel has mystery, intrigue, and stories,” explained creative director Miuccia. Each of the 50 models entered the runway, which was set-up in the lobby, through the hotel’s classic, brass, revolving doors – with a little help from a handsome doorman.
The A-list count was just as high on the runway as it was alongside it. Gwendoline Christie, Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, Roman Polanski and Rowan Blanchard were ringside but on the runway, Kate Bosworth (the first time the actress has walked a show), Naomi Campbell, Chloë Sevigny and Lily Collins all appeared, with long-time Miu Miu-lover Uma Thurman closing the event.
Miuccia was influenced by spontaneity for her Resort collection. Looks included silk PJs and sixties-inspired negligees, paired with fluffy slippers. These were contrasted against outfits perfect for a wild night out, like sequinned mini dresses and silk duchess gowns. At the other end of the spectrum, Miuccia also mixed her love of retro-futuristic sportswear with zippered hotpants, boxy grandpa cardigans and wide collared jackets in glossy leather and bleached denim.
“A HOTEL IS A PLACE FOR MYSTERY, FOR INTRIGUE, FOR STORIES… YOU FEEL FREER TO HAVE MORE FUN, TO BE FREER.”
Models held large leather suitcases in bright pop colors and a chintzy floral print (reminiscent of hotel wallpaper), but it was the fluffy slipper-like mules and Uma Thurman’s cat eye sunglasses that really stole the show.
As models entered the lobby, Frédéric Sanchez’s curated show soundtrack paid homage to the many aspects of hotel life, from polite elevator music to Madonna’s Justify My Love.
Editors and VIPs found keys to the bar, a members-only hangout for the night, placed on chairs — ranging from bar stools to plush armchairs — that were scattered throughout the lobby of the Belle Époque hotel. Uma Thurman sat with Polanski, artist Francesco Vezzoli and French filmmaker Agnes Varda and the models all stayed in their Resort 2019 looks for the party.
